Spotlight on the Older Adult
Geriatric Highlight: Evaluating Sleep Quality in Older Adults.
ConsultGeriRN.org has monthly topics relating to general geriatric healthcare. This month is “Evaluating Sleep Quality in Older Adults”. Sleep irregularities has been linked to many health problems such as cognitive impairment and compromised immunity. Over half of adults ages 65 and older report at least one chronic sleep complaint. ConsultGeri.org has a wealth of information relating to elder care, including sleep disorders, which are more common after age 65. The site includes sleep evaluation information and the How to Try This series which is funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation to the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University's College of Nursing in collaboration with the American Journal of Nursing (AJN).
This initiative translates the evidence-based geriatric assessment tools in the Try This Assessment Series into cost-free, web-based print and video resources, for caring for older adults. This series can be viewed, downloaded, and shared without any fees. Articles may be printed and copied for educational use without copyright fees.
You can also read more about the topic 'Sleep' on ConsultGeriRN.org. You may sign up to receive the eNewsletter free.
