Government Relations PRIORITIES

SOHN Government Relations priorities, as developed by the National Government Relations Committee and approved by the Board of Directors, are as follows:

Ensure access to basic, quality health care for all citizens.

Support the initiatives of the American Nurses Association regarding the Nursing Shortage, Patient Safety, Nursing Ethics, Research and Funding.

Advance the focus of disease prevention and health promotion, particularly regarding tobacco cessation and prevention.

Seek to control and regulate the availability of tobacco products to the public as a whole, and to youth in particular.

Support Government Relations initiatives of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD).

SOHN supports direct reimbursement by third party payers to advance practice nurses for their services in inpatient, outpatient, Perioperative, and extended care facility practice areas. SOHN opposes any measures to restrict existing requirements for nurse reimbursement.
