The primary objective of this educational initiative is to provide otolaryngology and head neck nurses the most up-to-date information regarding parotid tumors, how they are diagnosed and managed.
Target Audience:
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists whose patients present with parotid gland problems and may require surgical management.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify normal anatomy and physiology of the parotid gland.
- Recognize the signs, symptoms and relevant tests for parotid conditions.
- Explain obstructive, infectious and inflammatory conditions of the parotid gland.
- Discuss benign and malignant parotid tumors.
- Describe the surgical intervention for parotid tumors.
- Examine care following parotid surgery and opportunities for patient education.
