Guidelines for Authors

ORL-Head and Neck Nursing welcomes articles related to the broad field of otorhinolaryngology (ORL) and head and neck oncology nursing practice. Original clinical, nonclinical, and research articles on topics of interest or importance to ORL-Head and Neck nurses are sought by the journal. Address for submissions is listed at the bottom of this section.

Form

Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced, on one side of 8-1/2 x 11 inch white paper, numbered in the upper right-hand corner, maximum length 14 pages (3,500 words). A cover sheet should include the title of the manuscript, author(s) name(s), credentials and primary affiliations, and address and telephone numbers (work and home) of the primary author. Acknowledgment of foundation and grant support, if any, should also be noted. This page should be followed by an abstract of approximately 50 words. The manuscript title should be repeated on the first page of the text. Author(s) name(s) should not appear elsewhere on the manuscript. Computer disks (IBM compatible) along with hard copy should be included. Save your file as a text file. Label disks with author, title of article, and word processing package used. If requested, disks will be returned after material is copied. Please include biographical data with the manuscript.

Style

The fourth edition of the American Psychological Association Publication Manual (1994) provides the format for references, photographs, tables, and other details. References in the text should be cited by author and date, for example (Smith & Jones, 1997), with page numbers cited for direct quotations. Tables should be typed, double-spaced, one to a page, titled, and relative placement in the text noted. Figures and diagrams should include a title, typed on a separate page. Color slides must be clearly labeled (top, bottom, right, left) and placement in the text noted.

Procedure

Query letters to the editor are welcome but not required. Manuscripts are received with the assurance that they are not simultaneously under consideration by any other publication. The editor acknowledges receipt of the manuscript. ORL-Head and Neck Nursing is a refereed journal. Manuscripts are reviewed (without author identification) by at least three reviewers from the Manuscript Review Board and decisions for publication are made on the basis of the reviews. Revision is sometimes necessary. Accepted manuscripts become the property of ORL-Head and Neck Nursing. Manuscripts not accepted for publication will be returned to the author. ORL-Head and Neck Nursing reserves the right to edit all manuscripts to its style and space requirements and to clarify the presentation. Authors will receive proofs for approval and assume final responsibility for content, including the edited copy.

For manuscripts, one computer disk should be sent to:
