The
Office Based Practice Group attempts to share
issues and solutions for those working in
an office or ambulatory care setting. Most
of the problems that we each run into are
not unique to our situation or location. We
try to identify several of the "hot topics"
for the current year and have open lines of
communication / interactions to make suggestions
that may offer improvements to that particular
situation. One year the hot topic was cleaning
of scopes - a variety of methods and solutions
were discussed and information was mailed
out after the congress. Last year, the big
concern was JCAHO and who was competent to
do what they were doing. Copies of competencies
were mailed out for a variety of positions
- RN, LPN, NP - to prevent group members from
reinventing what was already in use elsewhere.
Other topics that have been discussed have
been telephone triage, documentation, staff
and patient education, and computerized patient
records just to name a few. We are here to
help others better serve our patients and
each other.
Any
one is welcomed to attend any of the special
interest groups. There is always someone who
has experienced something similar and can
offer assistance, sometimes solutions, and
sometimes just someone to listen and care.
