Clinical Practice Guidelines and Expert Consensus Statements
Since 2006, SOHN has partnered with the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF) in different capacities related to clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and expert consensus statements (ECSs), formerly called clinical consensus statements. This partnership includes an SOHN representative on the AAO-HNSF Guideline Task Force (GTF). The GTF mission includes providing oversight to the CPG and ECS development process; CPG and ECS dissemination; and CPG implementation. The GTF also provides a forum for education on topics related to guidelines, development standards, and dissemination techniques. The GTF meets twice a year to rank, prioritize, and vet topics submitted for CPG and ECS development.
SOHN is routinely invited to nominate a member to participate on CPG and ECS development panels. After CPGs have been developed or updated and the manuscript drafted, SOHN is able to provide names of two members willing to act as external peer reviewers. Finally, SOHN has more recently been asked to endorse new or updated CPGs and ECSs which is then listed in the print publication.
SOHN and the AAO-HNSF GTF welcome submission of topics relevant to nurses in varying roles. For more information or if you are interested in participating on an upcoming CPG or ECS development panel or as an external peer reviewer, please do not hesitate to contact Terri Giordano MSN CPNP- BC CORLN, SOHN’s GTF representative.
